Articulation Disorders

According to the American Speech Language Hearing Association (asha.org), an articulation disorder involves problems making speech sounds. These sounds may be left out of a word (omission), added to a word (addition), substituted for a different sound (substitution), or changed (distortion). Articulation disorders make it difficult for listeners to understand spoken language. Children develop speech sounds at different ages, and an articulation disorder develops when a sound error continues past a certain age.
